I’m very much having writer’s block at this moment.
Since the holiday season, I’ve been finding it hard to get any creative writing done. Nothing has been coming to me whenever I sit down and write, nothing. Today has not been successful with it. I know that it’s only the sixth day into the year and I’m definitely overreacting, but it can feel frustrating at times.
Earlier today, Yessica and I were cleaning up our place. Taking down the Christmas decorations, and de-cluttering some spaces that we let it get pretty bad. This wasn’t going to take all day, just a few things we wanted to get taken care of and the rest of the day was ours. So when that was all done, I got right to what I wanted to do for today, write.
But I can’t think of anything to write!
Writing the daily prompt for Bloganuary is no problem, because the idea is already given to me, I just give my answer and I’m done. Anything besides that is where I’m struggling to write about; nothing is popping in my head when I want to write a story or a poem, just nothing at all.
Some things I can do to fix this but I’m being too stubborn right now to use them. As if my imagination will turn on now and there we go, problem solved.
I have writing dice that Yessica got me for Christmas, where I roll a few of them that contains prompts for a character, setting, or time, then I can write whatever the dice tell me. A few times I did that when I was out of a laptop and wrote whatever story I can think of into one of my journals. This was pretty fun, even if the story came out awful, it did get me to think of ideas of what to write with what the dice rolled. It doesn’t have to be dice, any randomizer would work fine, but I recommend giving it a try if you want to write something quick with whatever you got dealt with.
I also have two writing prompt books that are either sitting on my nightstand unopened or saved on this computer unopened as well. Just…haven’t got to them yet, or at this rate, ever will. I’m sure I will get to those books; I can one day say that I’ll go through the prompts they have to offer and do it. An added bonus to that is that whatever I write from these prompts can be posted here too.
The moral of the story is…writer’s block stinks, and I should use the tools that I have to write something instead of being a dummy and waiting for my creative mind to come back from their trip to the beach.
