I think over the years, this dream job of mine has changed. Mostly because of the things that I was interested in at the time changed the older I got.
When I was a teenager, I wanted to work for Blizzard Entertainment as a game developer, where I would get to work on my favorite IP, Warcraft. Grew up playing those games, so it seemed like I was destined to work there. It was in my sophomore year of college, I applied for their summer internship program. I felt so confident that they were going to at least interview me, but months went by, and nothing. I thought that the major I was in was enough for them to pick me, but I never gave them a reason to though. Smart move on my end…
That dream job changed from being a game developer, to running a video game radio station (this post will explain it). During that time, I was really into podcasts. Whether it was listening to them or joining in with a few friends, it was all I listened to. The idea of combining video game music and podcasts into a radio show became this dream idea job for me. But I am inexperienced on the idea of starting a business like this, so that never happened.
Years after that, it wasn’t a specific dream job, but more of a dream to work for Microsoft. I still think of this as a dream for me. In August of 2021, my fiancé and I went to Seattle for vacation, and one of the things to do was to take a tour of the Microsoft campus. It was still early into the pandemic, and they unfortunately closed the tours because of it picking up, so we couldn’t go see the campus. It was bummer, but I understand why we couldn’t go see it. Maybe in the near future, when I work on more of my programming, that tour that I missed in 2021 will happen in a more employment opportunity and visit this time.
Now in present day, this dream job is more finding one where I get to wake up and be excited to get started on work. Something that comes from a hobby, turning into a career for me. Preferably one that involves writing. I’ve been enjoying my time writing just about anything on here, or in my writing app. And soon enough, I’ll be sending some of my work to magazines where that can eventually lead to achieving that dream that I’m talking about.
If any of these dream jobs are achieved, I still would like to keep a work-life balance, because if not, I would burn myself out and eventually hate what I do. It’s important to step back and focus on everything else in your life. I’m sure it would be hard at times, because it’s something you love to do, and you want to keep working on it, but that will lead to an unhealthy lifestyle.
All of these dream jobs by the way, are not farfetched at all. It takes time, effort, and chances to land that dream job. Just need that push to get motivated and start working on it.
