For as long as I could remember, my parents would give me, my sister, and my brother a tree ornament or two every year on Christmas. Whether it was the named brand like Hallmark or ones you find at gift shops, we’d always have some new ones to put on the tree every Christmas. This holiday tradition is one that I carry on, and I still have my first-ever ornament from when I was a baby that I put on the tree every year.

When my fiancé and I moved into our first apartment together, I took my tote of ornaments with me because it was twenty-five years of ornaments I did not want to lose. Our first Christmas living together was when she started to build her collection of ornaments, and everywhere we go for vacation, we bring back an ornament or ask friends and family to bring us one after they visit. We also have our yearly holiday party — where we do a white elephant gift exchange with ornaments. It’s safe to say that she loves this tradition and built on it.

We want to keep this tradition going and share it with our kids in the future. According to my fiancé and sister-in-law, this is one of the few traditions my family did that they love (my family is a different story). But every year, our ornament collection keeps increasing — and soon enough, we’ll need one more tote to carry all of them!
