This post has been in draft form for over a month now, and I thought of bringing it back and finally finishing it so that I could publish it.
I started a Substack to focus on my short fiction and keep my WordPress blog for more ramblings, daily prompts, etc. But on Substack, I follow topics of fiction, fantasy, and tabletop role-playing games. Even though I’m not too much of a gamer now, they’re all interests I have in following. It was on Substack, where I saw a few discussions and Substack’s accounts talking about playing tabletop role-playing games solo. Something that I have never thought of before.

Every three weeks, sometimes longer, a few of my friends and I meet online, get together on Discord and play Dungeons & Dragons. We’re amateur players who don’t fully follow the game’s rules, but we have a great time together and have lots of laughs. However, while waiting until the next game, I get the urge and impatience of wanting to play more Dungeons & Dragons. It doesn’t have to be that game specifically; it can be Pathfinder, CyberPunk Red, etc. I would like to continue playing at times.
Seeing the content about playing solo, I thought this would be a great idea. I would play on my own time and not lose a week if someone or myself couldn’t make it, and I could use this opportunity to think about character development and create a story. Another way to keep practicing the art of storytelling and use that for my future manuscripts. A win-win if you ask me.
But I would like to look more into it before starting a game by myself.
For anyone who has done this or is currently playing a solo campaign. Any tips and places to look for help are greatly appreciated!
