I love cold weather. Hot, humid weather can go far away from me anymore. When I was younger, I loved the summer. Now? I despise the feeling of sweating just by existing outside. It’s almost June here, and I’m dreading this summer season.
I hear all the time that you can put an extra layer of clothes on if you’re cold. You can’t do that when you have nothing left and you still feel hot. I’m sitting in my home office with the window open, enjoying the cold breeze coming in. It wasn’t a week ago when my wife and I were dealing with hot, humid weather, making it uncomfortable to sit around at home. I’ll take fall and winter weather in the Northeastern United States any day.
Running also has a benefit with the weather. For starters, not many people like to deal with being outside if it’s cold. But for me? It’s my time alone with my thoughts on the walkway trails. I don’t have to worry about the awkward “on your left” when passing people who feel the need to take up the entire path. Then I feel like an asshole when I startle them as they’re not self-aware of their surroundings. The fewer people are out there, the better.
Another running reason is that there’s better air flow when I’m keeping my pace. Today was sunny and 55°F/12.77°C, with wind chills bringing it down. Let me tell you, it still felt cold outside, and my run on my lunch break was perfect!
I’ll take cold weather any day of the year, anymore.
