September’s prompt for the monthly 53-word story was, “Tick.” Please enjoy these two stories I wrote that fit the theme of a tick.
Lime’s Disease
The chaser of lime helped the burn of the shot. “You know, they call it Lime’s Disease. Talk about weird, right?”
“It sure is. Humans are weird,” the bartender polishes their mugs.
The notification lights up the grassy table. “Well, my rides here,” they check their lift app. “It’s a German Shephard, today.”
It’s Summer

The clock handle spins every so slowly. The ticking is all you hear as the hand moves down, then struggles to climb up to meet its counterpart. If you could, you would help it up. When will the ticking end? But it makes it there, and the bell overshadows the ticking.
“Class dismissed.”
Once a month, Press-53 sends a prompt for their monthly 53-word microfiction contest. This is a free entry due on the 15th. If you’d like to join, visit the link here: https://www.press53.com/53word-story-contest
If you like what you have read, there are other stories here on my site, along with ramblings and daily prompts.
