2025 Goals, and Grade

We still have some days left before we greet 2026, but at this point, I think we’re just about done with this year and hoping the New Year is better. If you have been living under a rock and haven’t paid too much attention to current media, then you’d be surprised to know that most of those around you are probably treating this year as the meme of that dog sitting in a room on fire, saying, “This is fine.” Who knows if 2026 will be the year it all gets better. But I still want to write about this year, at least.

The This is Fine Meme.

It's a two-panel comic strip. The first panel is of a hound dog, wearing a hat and sitting on a chair, staring off into space. The room is on fire around them, while their mug that they're drinking is sitting on the table.

The second panel is the same image zoomed in a bit, with the hound dog saying, "This is fine."
A perfect fit for 2025.

If I were to give myself a grade on this year with the goals I have set, I’d probably give myself a D.

Looking at the list I made myself of the goals set for 2025, I’d have completed 5 out of 13. A few I was on track, but life got in the way, and I let temptation get the better of me.

A few that I have accomplished this year would be:

  • Keeping up with my writing.
    • I didn’t write *as* much as I wanted to, but I still wrote every day.
  • Focus on my mental health.
    • A debatable one; I still talk to a therapist, but fall into the doomscrolling of toxic posts on social media, leaving me frustrated as soon as I put my phone down.
  • Read at least five books.

While I am proud of the goals I did achieve, one I didn’t want to fail at was keeping up with my running. For 2025, I tried to run at least once a week for the entire year. All the way up to July, I was doing just fine, until I got sick. That’s when running came to a halt. It was my way to keep my physical and mental health, but I was battling myself on keeping at it. So, when I ended up sick, the side on my shoulder telling me that it’s okay to take a break, won, and I haven’t gone back out there since then. Now, I’m trying to get myself out running again.

Me and my nephew at my race. I had my racing bib on with the race number 106. My nephew next to me is holding a green sign that says "GO UNCLE BRAD" with a few stars surrounding the writing.

There are people in the background of the picture, as the race hasn't started yet at the time of the picture.
My only race of 2025. My goal was to race at least 5 times this year.

There were other goals that I didn’t accomplish. I am also bummed about not writing a 50,000-word or more story, finishing 2-3 journals, or saving a lot more money.

All of those can be my goals again next year.

Over the holiday break, leading up to the New Year, I’ll be busy. And before I know it, it’ll be 2026 already.

I hope everyone enjoys their holiday break and have a fantastic 2026!

That’s if I don’t post anything here before that; I may have time to myself to write over the break.
