Cleansed (250 Words)

New-New York City’s Federation mandates citizens to carry chip implants for various reasons, while Isaac looks to have it removed just so he could have some peace and quiet.

In New-New York City, the Federation mandated that its citizens were to carry chip implants to monitor them, along with an influx of propaganda and advertisements they could not ignore. Issac looked to Doctor Lock about the illegal procedure to remove the implant, called Cleansing.

“Keep it steady,” the doctor reassured Issac. Issac felt the discomfort of how long Doctor Lock had been drilling into the back of his head.

“Alright. How are you feeling?” The doctor checked in after he had finished drilling.

“I still can hear everything,” Issac answered honestly. “Did you do anything at all?”

The doctor laughed, “I haven’t started cleansing just yet; I only cut the connection in your chip. Now, we will need to reboot your operating system.” The doctor gestured for Issac to plug in his neuro-cable. “If you will.”

Issac didn’t know what to expect, but the moment he jacked into the port, he awoke some time later. Bootups went across his visor, validating that all lifeform functions still worked and returning his vision to find the doctor across from him.

“How are you feeling?” He asked Issac again.

This time, Issac had a different answer. “Quiet.”

“Good, it means that it worked—you are now cleansed.”

What Issac was feeling was that the Federation noise was no longer inside his head: no propaganda, advertisements, or anything to keep him awake anymore.

“Now that you’re no longer tied to the Fed, what will you do now?”

“Sleep. Just quiet, no interrupted sleep, doc.”
