Four 53-Word Stories

At the beginning of each month, Press 53 Publishing gives out a prompt for their free contest for people to come up with a 53-word story. Each month, I participate, hoping to get selected as a winner. Sadly, I have yet to claim victory for the months I have participated, BUT I do have some stories to share with everyone!

Yeah, I can see why he hasn’t won.

Understandable comment, but I’m getting close—I can feel it!

Feel free to write some stories with any of the prompts below as well!

When they arrive, they are small, fragile, but precious. You give them water and nutrients to stay healthy. Sunlight can benefit a healthier lifestyle for them.

We repeat the process until they sprout until their fullest, so when it comes their time, they may have one of their own to help them grow.

The multicolored lights on the tree matched the stack of UNO cards on the table. Father had one card left, and then our holiday tradition would be over, but I wasn’t ready to call it just yet.

His smirk said he would win, but I laid out my Hail Mary.

Wild Draw Four.

Measurement

Carpenter pencil slides over the door trim. The yearly measurement was complete.

“Wow!” Amy shouted. “I’m going to be taller than Kyle!”

Both her parents looked at each other. Four was still too young. She’ll get closer and closer, but Kyle will stay where he is.

“You sure will, sweetie,” they comforted her.

Sink

He poured the two full bottles of wine down the sink. Wondering if they would rather drink beer or whisky instead of wine.

“You want to explain yourself—honey?”

“Explain what, dear?”

“That you thought it was okay.”

“What? People like wine.”

“Not when we are hosting an AA meeting at our home, Richard!”
