I’ve Already Answered the Daily Writing Prompts for Bloganuary…Now What?

Last year, I participated in Bloganuary. Bloganuary is a month-long event on WordPress, where every day, a new prompt is available for you to answer, and you can post whatever it is you like answering that question on your blog following the #bloganuary tag. It was a great way to get comfortable posting on your blog if you were a newcomer, find other sites to follow from the tag, and start the new year with a goal in mind.

But what do I do when I have already answered the daily questions WordPress has to offer for this month?

I’ll admit, any spark of doing Bloganuary has dwindled to it feeling almost gone. For me, the point was to answer daily questions and view other responses to share and comment. So, when a previous post that I did last year is the answer to this question, why bother?

I’m just being a bunch of sour grapes now because I opened my laptop, grabbed a cup of coffee, and saw that I already answered today’s question in a previous post.

Now, I don’t have to do the daily prompts to participate. The point WordPress may have wanted was for you to use their platform to post daily to get traffic flowing and bring in more people to sign up. But maybe people were hesitant about joining or just left WordPress altogether because of the controversy involving the CEO of Automattic and WP Engine. I’m not too familiar with it, but it could be why there are no new prompts this month. Being ignorant of the issue, I’m speculating that it was for people who may have used plugins for their sites (basing it off of a quick skim of a summary I read online).

Circling back to what I want to do about this month now.

I could post once a day; it doesn’t have to be answering questions; it can be whatever it is. I would just need to be consistent in posting daily. Maybe something like the morning pages, where once a day, I write whatever I want to write and post that out for people to read. A daily journal is something else, but I don’t want it to be too personal. I don’t want much of my life for others to read. I can do a rough draft of a quick short story based on whatever prompt I give myself from the dice set my wife got me last Christmas. Or I can write this rant here and see you all the next time I want to write here. We’ll see.

Well, day one of the Bloganuary is complete. It’s not what I expected, but that’s fine!
