The Mulberry Tribune – Issue #1

The Mulberry Tribune, Stories about family & the Mulberry community. Est 1920

Please enjoy the first installment of The Mulberry Tribune!

Introduction

Welcome to Mulberry, a fictional small town that’s full of heart in its people, and a secret to spill out. And what better way to spill them than by their very own newspaper publication? Written by Mulberry’s very own, Kaitlyn Fairchild

What I aim to do is write a series of newspaper articles that tell the stories of Mulberry. Give the readers a style that the people of Mulberry would have found out as the days go on.

Please enjoy the first newspaper publication, “Hoopla’s Fulfilled Mulberry’s Sweet Tooth,” as our introduction to the stories to come!

Everything told here is fictional. All characters appearing in this work are fictitious. Any resemblance to real persons, living or dead, is purely coincidental.

Enjoy the upcoming stories!

Hoopla’s Fulfilled Mulberry‘s Sweet Tooth

May 3rd, 1995

Every first of the month, Mulberry hosts their monthly community day here at Kinsley Park. For the month of May, the town hosted its 4th annual bake-off. An event that has been growing in size with each passing year. With sweet treats for all, everyone left with full bellies and many cavities, Dr. Alan Newhart’s dentistry will be busy for the months to come!

The sweetest part of it all was that we had our own Mulberrys Hoopla playing a concert for all attendees. People (and animals) enjoyed the kid-friendly music while scoffing down desserts like Barbara Maisely’s chocolate scones or our very own Mayor Hank Ingram’s banana pudding pie. Their music was the icing on the cake for a great Monday evening.

”Frankly, I’m just happy to see everyone in Mulberry come in and enjoy the town’s traditions.” Mayor Ingram commented on the turnout for the bake-off. “I couldn’t let the Hooplas come and play without some compensation. I know it’s not going to pay the bills for them, but I made sure to make an extra batch of my famous banana pudding pie for them to take home.”

Dennis Ryeman, lead singer of the Hooplas, took the bowl of banana pudding gracefully. “How can you say no to some delicious banana pudding?” And for that, Dennis, I’d have to agree.

When asked if Mayor Ingram would share his recipe, he quickly laughed it off and said, “Don’t worry, Kaitlyn, I will share it with you all, once I win the bake-off, that is. I would be remiss if I did not congratulate Barbara and her delicious chocolate scones. They were an absolute hit at the festival. I’ll win it next year, you can count on that.”

Laughter filled the air as everyone continued to indulge in sugary treats, and I had a taste of Barbara Maisely’s two-year-winning chocolate scones.

I asked her [Barbara Maisley] for the recipe, for which she graciously denied and said that it’s a “Family secret.” So, it’s safe to say that if you plan on obtaining recipes from our very own residents, you’ll be disappointed. But your cravings will be fulfilled, and that’s a Mulberry promise.

Update: While this does take place in a fictional version of our world, I would like to keep the dates fairly accurate. So, I updated “Saturday afternoon” to “Monday evening,” as May 1st, 1995, fell on a Monday.
